Poor Judd Altman (Jason Bateman, profanity). He woke up one morning as a happily married man whose well-ordered life was gone just as he always planned. By the end of the day ... what had gotten complicated. Judd does not "do" complex. That there will be an even bigger problem when the unexpected death of his father Judd lands smack in the middle of his complex family. To make matters worse, he's stuck in the house with his mother and siblings, seven days, when they are "sitting Shiva" (Jewish ritual of mourning), the father's last wishes.  This Is Where I Leave You Online
They're a busy family, the Altmans. Hillary's mother (Jane Fonda, Georgia Rule) is the author of the best-selling book of raising children, which included intimate details of her children's lives as examples. All grown up now, Altman children are still dealing with the trauma caused. Big brother Paul (Corey Stoll, Non-Stop) is responsible for it, who remained home to care for the family business, a bit like the older brother of the prodigal son story. He is married to Annie (Kathryn Hahn, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), who desperately wants a baby. Paul and Judd's sister Wendy (Tina Fey, entrance) is already the children, and a husband who can not get off the phone long enough to say two words to her son. Rounding out the family is eternal little brother Philip (Adam Driver What If), in isolation, that may go away at any time. It is a fabulously talented cast and the relationships between them seems completely genuine. They seem to be right, too. Not one of them is a polished model of perfection, as the movie characters are likely to be. You walk past any of them to the grocery store without a second glance (until they began to argue, then you better take cover). Like most families, they bicker constantly, but when one of them is threatened they will close ranks and stand together. "You idiots," Wendy tells his brother, "but you're my idiot." By adding the bitterness of the story is Wendy's first love Horry (Timothy Olyphant, Hitman), a man who suffered a debilitating brain injury but managed to hold onto a wry sense of humor.
